@home // Markey Funk: JLM 1913/1921
August 31, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Watch tonight’s event live at 8 pm PDT <<<HERE>>>
On Monday, August 31, Temple Israel of Hollywood and LA-based online radio station dublab are teaming up to present a screening of JLM 1913/1921 and conversation with its composer Markey Funk.
Originally commissioned by the Jerusalem Cinematheque for the annual Jewish Film Festival, JLM 1913/1921 is a collection of personal impressions in sound, based on two of the earliest documents of Jerusalem on film dating as far as 1913 and 1921. Created entirely within two weeks in late 2015, this mini-album is Markey Funk’s exploration into the place that he’s been calling his home over the last 20 years. The signature blend of tense cinematic funk and 60’s psychedelia makes way for relaxed meditative electronica, which takes the listener on a haunting trip through day-to-day life scenes set in vaguely familiar places.
Broadcast live from the artists’ living room to yours and hosted by TIOH Arts & Culture’s artistic director Diana Wyenn, this event will be live-streamed for free as part of TIOH Arts & Culture’s @home series and followed by an exclusive online screening of JLM 1913/1921.
RSVP HERE to receive the email with the viewing link on the day of the event.
This event is co-presented with dublab.
Markey Funk (Delights, Jerusalem)
Jerusalem-based musician/producer/DJ/turntablist/crate-digger and music archivist, Markey Funk has established himself as Israel’s top raw and way-out grooves specialist both – in the studio and behind the decks. Starting off as a hip-hop and funk DJ, his musical palette has grown constantly wider and deeper throughout the years, embracing everything between psychedelia, folk, early electronic and cinematic music from around the world. Besides collecting records and playing them for crowds around the country and abroad, Markey has been writing and producing his own music for more than a decade: from hip hop beats, through fully sample-based debut album and remixes for a wide variety of local artists, to music for short animation and documentary films, and much more. Following the release of his second LP “Instinct” in 2016, he has launched the boutique 7” imprint Delights. The label’s dedication to today’s psych- and funk-influenced sounds has soon earned Delights a strong following among vinyl freaks around the globe.
