“The founding father of electronica.” —BBC
Composer and electronic music legend Morton Subotnick returns to Los Angeles for one night for the LA premiere of his newest work As I Live and Breathe (2022) alongside his seminal work Silver Apples of the Moon (1967). Presented in surround sound with live animations by Lillevan, this immersive experience is a feast for the senses.
Subotnick is one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and an innovator in works involving instruments and other media, including interactive computer music systems. When he released the first album of all-electronic music featuring exotic timbres and dance-inspiring rhythms, The New York Times heralded, “He seems to be exploring a limitless world.” Of his newest work, Subotnick shares, “It starts with my breath, moves through a vocalizing cadenza of vocal gestures, and ends with a tender and simple use of gentle rhythms and melodic fragments.”
This event is presented in partnership with dublab and made possible in part thanks to the generous support of Jim Newman, Michael Skloff, and AKP Recordings.
