Talking With Each Other, Not Past Each Other
Braver Angels | Strangers in Their Own Land | REUnited States
Interested in deeply understanding one aspect of the conservative right ideology in America? Join Rabbi Missaghieh with UC Berkeley professor Dr. Arlie Russell Hochschild, author of Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right to understand why some conservatives vote the way they do.
Dr. Hochschild (National Book Award Finalist and New York Times bestseller) spent five years immersed in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a Tea Party stronghold, hearing why they appear to vote in ways they do, which (from her liberal Democratic perspective) seems antithetical to what would be to their benefit.
We will also reflect on the rise of white supremacy in light of the January 6th Insurrection on the US Capitol and her new research on people in the conservative Republican strong-hold of impoverished eastern Kentucky.
